Dwayne Johson, better known as The Rock, has come out to publicly support the candidacy of Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris for president and vice-president respectively. This is the first time the 48-year-old Jumanji actor would endorse any candidate for the White House. In fact, Johnson had told people earlier that he might even run for the 2020 presidency himself but that is no longer his fancy.
The star actor had always remained politically neutral for most of his life, but he confessed to forcing himself to vote for Barack Obama in 2016.
However, on Sunday, he posted an Instagram video where he chatted with Biden and Harris over the presidential ambition before declaring his support for them. It was a virtual meeting with the presidential nominee and senator, and Johnson and they had a great chat together.
“Now, this is something that I’ve certainly not done in the past, so I’m going to go big,” Johnson said before going ahead with his virtual guests. You guys know me, if I go, I go big!”
According to him, he is friends with Democrats as well as with Republicans and Independents; but he is always willing to endorse any candidate who has the best interest of the nation at heart. He said the conversation and dialog with candidates are always the most critical part of making an informed decision with them. Then he stated that he wants to see Biden and Harris at the White House.
“As a registered Independent for years now with centrist ideologies, I do feel that Vice President Biden and Sen. Harris are the best choices to lead our country, and I am endorsing them to become president and vice president,” he said.
Johnson praised Biden that he is a leader with “great compassion and heart and drive” and also told Harris that “you’ve been an attorney, a district attorney, a state attorney, a US senator…smart, tough…” before asking the due what they plan to do to earn the respect of the Americans from inside the White House. “How will you earn the respect of the American people once you’re inside the White House?” he asked.
“By doing what we say we’re going to do, by keeping our word, by leveling with the American people, by taking responsibility,” Biden replied with gusto. “When we fail, acknowledge it. We’re not going to be perfect, but take responsibility! Tell the truth! It sounds so basic, but the American people are strong, they’re tough. They can take anything if you level with them and tell the truth.”
Harris also noted that truth is the foundation for building trust and that they will be transparent in their dealings with all Americans.
