The upcoming James Bond film “No Time to Die” may not be having the groundbreaking cinema release that we anticipate as plans are in the offing to release the movie straight to streaming services. This would be the 25th movie in the series and Daniel Craig’s last appearance as 007.
No Time to Die is among one of the top movies that viewers have been expecting to launch this year. The movie was originally scheduled to be released back in April. However, it was delayed due to the coronavirus. Ever since the movie’s release has been postponed several times. And now, it’s been moved from its November 2020 release date to sometime in April 2021 after studio executives considered how the recent rise in coronavirus cases in the US might affect its release in theaters.
Christopher Nolan had taken a huge step to release his acclaimed Sci-Fi movie, Nolan, in August. It was the only major blockbuster to have hit the screen during the summer period in an attempt to convince moviegoers to the theater once again; however, the movie did not do quite well as was expected.
Cinemas in the country appear to be shutting down once more, and the AMC studio made it known recently that it may go broke before the end of the year.
Movie studios are turning to stream platforms to launch their movies. Universal Pictures set the ball rolling when it chose to stream its movies, The Invisible Man and Emma. Mulan joined the trend by launching on the Disney+ streaming platform. Hamilton followed a similar trend in July, and Pixar Soul is set to be released on streaming platforms in December also.
With no end in sight to the coronavirus that would have seen cinemas across the country open to full capacity, there are ongoing speculations that No Time to Die may be forced to tread the same path. MGM Studios may be thinking hard to sell their movie to top streaming platforms such as Netflix or Apple TV+.
Binged made a revelation in the publication that the two platforms are going toe to toe to see who manages to scoop the deal. And the deal involves a lot of money running into their millions. The movie had a budget of $250 million, and both streaming platforms would have to cough out huge funds to finance the deal.
Apple+ had earlier taken this path when it secured rights to Tom Hank’s Greyhound during the beginning of the year after the movie encountered several delays and postponements. Paramount Pictures only recently sold the anticipated Eddie Murphy sequel Coming to America 2 to Amazon Studios for about $125 million.
To recoup their investments, studios may be turning to stream platforms as it seems like waiting for the theaters to be open and running again may lead to revenue loss. Fans are looking forward to No Time to Die, and it remains to be seen if streaming platforms may come to the rescue.
