Sony Refunds PS4 Cyberpunk 2077 Gamers after Glitches and Bugs Were Reported

PlayStation has started issuing refunds to gamers who called out the video game brand over the performance of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4.

After the launch of the game this week, gamers took to Twitter under the hashtag “CyberBug2077” to criticize the company over the huge number of graphical bugs and crashes that accompanied the game, especially in consoles. While gamers on other platforms also lodged various complaints, PS4 users seem to be the most affected by poor performance.

In most videos uploaded on social media by gamers, it showed the game taking a lot of time to load while characters often suffered from glitches. In some scenarios, the entire gaming environment crashed.

A user on the Reddit platform, “NotBen_2”, created a thread on the forum, saying he got back his refund on the digital copy of the game on PS4 on Saturday after reaching out to PlayStation customer care helpline. He explained that it took some time for a customer care representative to speak to him and address his concerns, but when they did, he got his refund, and the game was removed from his library.

Other users on the Reddit thread also confirmed that they were able to get a refund after they contacted PlayStation Support. On the other hand, not everybody has been lucky, since some users had their refund requests turned down.

Sony launched a refund policy in 2019 that allowed users a timeline of 14 days to cancel all digital purchases they made on PS4. The policy allowed users to cancel pre-ordered games, released games, and other downloadable content yet to download or stream. However, once download or streaming has begun on content, the eligibility for refund is rendered void, except in situations where the content was invalid.

According to a Friday update by CD Projekt Red, the company said it had launched a new update to Cyberpunk 2077, which fixed all the glitches and crashes, thereby improving gameplay and performance. The publisher said it would further improve the game through subsequent patches that would be made available.

A review by Video Games Chronicle had called the game a stunning achievement if gamers could turn a blind eye to the various glitches encountered. A recent analysis on next-gen hardware, the Xbox Series X, showed the game to be of very high quality. A test by Digital Foundry also showed that the game was quite compatible with Xbox Series X, Series S, and PlayStation 5.
